CAUSES OF COLLES FRACTURE

Colles fracture occurs when a person while falling stretch the hand out for saving themselves and fall on it. This can also occur during a car accident trauma. Colles fracture or broken wrist is common in the people involved in the sports activities like skiers, contact sports, bikers and inline skaters. There are also high risk factors like people suffering from thinning of bones or osteoporosis. However anyone can get it if the trauma occurs in the wrist.

DIAGNOSIS OF THE COLLES FRACTURE

If you are experiencing a pain in the arm preventing the normal use of it, you must contact the doctor. Never delay in contacting a doctor immediately if you are having deformed wrist, pain in the wrist, numbness in the hand, wrist and fingers and there is also change of color in the fingers, turning pale or white. Until the doctor examines it, put an ice pack on the wrist and keep it elevated. Remove the rings of any accessories from the fingers before any swelling occurs.

The most common way to diagnose any type of fracture is X-ray. In X-ray your doctor can assess if there is fracture or dislocation, site of fracture and number of broken pieces.
